A hospital appears here as an emergency vet only when a published source confirms an emergency service. We do not infer it from a name, a category or a review.
What counts as confirmation
- Open 24/7: the hospital's own website or location page states, in its own words, that it is open 24/7 or runs a 24-hour emergency service, or its opening hours in OpenStreetMap are 24/7 and its own website confirms round-the-clock care, or it holds a current Level I or Level II facility certification from the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, whose standard requires taking emergency patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Limited emergency hours: the hospital publishes an emergency service with specific hours (for example nights and weekends), offers after-hours emergencies through an on-call veterinarian, or holds a current VECCS Level III certification. We show the schedule as published and, where it can be read reliably, whether the service is open at this moment in the hospital's time zone.
Urgent care clinics and general practices are not listed as emergency hospitals. A practice that tells its own clients to go elsewhere after hours is not an emergency hospital, even if its website mentions emergencies. Search results and directory listings are used only to find candidates: every hospital is confirmed on its own website or location page, including the phone number and street address shown here.
Services, payment and exam fees
Hospital pages show exotic-pet care, intensive care, emergency surgery, CT or MRI, blood transfusion, accepted payment plans (CareCredit, Scratchpay), deposits, walk-in or call-ahead policies and a published exam fee only when the hospital states it on its own website. Each item carries the quoted sentence and the page it came from. A missing item means we found no such statement.
Keeping listings current
Every month the source page of each hospital is downloaded again. A listing is re-confirmed when the page still answers, still shows the same phone number and still describes the emergency service; its "Verified" date then moves to that day. Listings that fail any of these checks are reviewed by hand.

Addresses and phone numbers are normalized, and records describing the same hospital in several sources are merged by phone number and location. Each hospital page lists its sources with the date they were read.
Current numbers
713 hospitals: 610 open 24/7 and 103 with limited emergency hours. Sources read between November 4, 2026 and November 6, 2026.
Distances
City pages measure straight-line distance from the center of the city to each hospital. Driving distance is always longer. City pages exist only where at least one verified emergency hospital lies within 50 miles of the city center; neighboring towns that would show the same hospitals as a larger nearby city point to that city's page.
Corrections
Hospitals change hours and phone numbers. If something here is wrong, tell us and include a link to the hospital's own page if you can.
